Jefferson County high school seniors who have been leaders for the Outdoor Lab program at least twice are eligible to apply for a new scholarship provided by the Outdoor Lab Foundation.

Two $2,000 scholarships will be awarded to former high school leaders who are applying for admission to any private or public vocational training program, college or university.

“This is a real opportunity to not only give back to students who have given so much to the Outdoor Lab program, but a way to create a lifelong connection to Outdoor Lab we have only dreamed could be possible,” Jason Dewar, student services specialist with Jefferson County Schools and Outdoor Lab Foundation board member, said in a news release.

The application period is open until Feb. 20, and applications can be found at www.outdoorlabfoundation.org/scholarships. Winners of the Outdoor Lab High School Leader Scholarship will be notified in early April, and a formal announcement will take place in May.

This scholarship is advertised on Naviance, a comprehensive college and career readiness solution that helps districts and schools align student strengths and interests to postsecondary goals. Jefferson County students use this as a resource to find available scholarships.

Each year close to 1,000 students from Jefferson County high schools volunteer as leaders in Jefferson County's Outdoor Lab program, immersing them into a leadership opportunity to the teach Jefferson County sixth-grade students the core values of stewardship of oneself, others and the environment around them.

The Outdoor Lab Foundation is dedicated to inspiring community support and advocating for the Outdoor Lab Schools. It is through the efforts of the entire community that Jefferson County has Outdoor Lab Schools with a legacy enduring more than 62 years. Learn more at www.outdoorlabfoundation.org.
