Letter to the editor: School board endorsements

Posted

Four years ago, the Jeffco community came together for our students and for public education, electing our five-member school board. Serving Jeffco in this capacity has been an honor.
While we are not seeking re-election, there are two excellent candidates we enthusiastically endorse. Joan Chavez-Lee and Stephanie Schooley will continue moving Jeffco forward. These two public education advocates bring personal and professional insight into the importance of strong public schools for thriving communities during a critical election. We cannot afford to replay the battles of the past; Jeffco students deserve a focus on their futures.
Joan Chavez-Lee has a distinguished career as a teacher, principal, and community leader. She has spent decades pursuing excellence and equity for all students, and giving to her community through CASA, Kiwanis, Feeding the Future, AWRSAY, the Write Stuff, and Jeffco’s District Accountability Committee.
A parent of two Jeffco students, Stephanie Schooley works in higher education focusing on connecting colleges and universities, community organizations, and cities to create pathways for students. Stephanie has served Jeffco as a current member of the District Accountability Committee and past-president of her school’s PTA, as well as board positions with Hoofs & Paws Therapeutic Riding Center and Denver Young Nonprofit Professionals Network.
Jeffco’s vision of transformed learning and transformed lives deserves continuity of direction and leadership. Stephanie Schooley and Joan Chavez-Lee will deliver just that.
Thank you for trusting us to serve the Jeffco community! We are forever Jeffco Proud!
Ali Lasell, Jeffco Board of Education, District 3 Director
Amanda Stevens, Jeffco Board of Education, District 4 Director
