Letter to the editor: 200 a small price to pay

Posted

The article Q&A with Teo Nicolais in the Aug. 8 Sentinel presented Mr. Nicolais’ opinion on passage of 200. If 200 makes new construction less affordable as Mr. Nicolais and the opponents of 200 purport, it’s a small price to pay for finally freeing citizens to be players in the development process, determining what Lakewood will look like in the future and how livable it will be. Mr. Nicolais further points out that 200 sets forth that any future apartment complex of more than 40 units must obtain a vote by the full city council which will likely result in a shift away from the development of apartments in favor of single-family home. This will ameliorate the density challenge that has been occasioned by the many apartments more recently appearing on the Lakewood landscape.
