One man was shot and killed by Lakewood Police over the weekend at a Wheat Ridge motel.
The West Metro SWAT Team, made up of members from the Lakewood Police and Wheat Ridge Police departments, was called to the American Motel at 10101 W. Interstate 70 Frontage Road North at 1 a.m. on Jan. 12 on reports of a wanted man staying at the motel, according to a release. The man was 52-year-old Thomas Charles Snyder II, and he was wanted for a Jan. 11 armed robbery of a bank in Longmont.
The Longmont Times-Call reported that Snyder had last been seen on the 11th driving a vehicle stolen from Enterprise Sales in Thornton earlier in the day. The Times-Call also reported that law enforcement listed Snyder's active warrants as including one for a parole violation stemming from an earlier robbery charge.
When the team of officers arrived, they tried to talk Snyder out of a room in the motel for around two hours, the release reads, but he refused to leave. The West Metro SWAT Team then entered the room to find Snyder armed with a handgun. He was commanded to drop the weapon, but he refused, and was shot by two Lakewood Police officers.
Snyder was pronounced dead at the scene, and the Jefferson County Critical Incident Response Team will investigate the shooting. The officers who shot Snyder have been placed on administrative leave during the investigation, per department protocol.
