Honoring Lakewood's James E. Harrison

The former South Simms Street Park is now James E. Harrison Park

Posted

On Aug. 26, Lakewood residents and the family of James E. Harrison gathered at 544 S. Simms St. for the renaming of the former South Simms Street Park. The park will now be called James E. Harrison Park after Lakewood City Council approved the name change at a June 10 city council meeting. Harrison worked on Lakewood's incorporation in 1969, served as a neighborhood block captain for the Lakewood Police Department's Neighborhood Watch Program, was part of the Glennon Heights Homeowners Association and was a U.S. veteran. Harrison's family attended and spoke at the event as did Lakewood Mayor Adam Paul and Lakewood City Councilmember Mike Bieda.

Following the park dedication, residents enjoyed food like sandwiches, chips and cake at the park.
