Jeffco Public Schools is in the process amping up its recruiting and hiring efforts for the 2019-20 school year.
With 5A funds, the district plans to hire 39 social emotions learning specialists; nine nurses; two gifted and talented counselors; five behavioral specialist and other supports; six career links Career Technical Education supports; 36 preschool licensed instructors; one employee counselor; and one Title IX coordinator.
Additionally the district hopes to fill general positions in the following areas: classroom teachers, general education, art, music, physical education, digital teacher librarian, instructional coach, interventionists, special education and special service providers.
To do this, the human resources department will be holding and attending a variety of job fairs and conferences throughout Colorado as well as Detroit, Chicago, Massachusetts, Iowa and California.
David Bell, chief human resources officer, and Kevin Carroll, chief student success officer, said attending these out-of-state events will allow them to diversify the candidate pool.
Diversity is something John Ford and members of the Jeffco Education Association asked the board to take into consideration this hiring process. Ford reminded the board during public comment Feb. 7 of a goal to hire more people of color in the district because over 30 percent of students are people of color, but teachers and staff in Jeffco are 91 percent white.
