Why are you seeking this office?
I love Lakewood and I want to make sure it continues to be the beautiful place we all chose to be our home. I feel a strong connection to this area, with family roots in the Ward 3 area dating back to 1949. I believe I have a lot to offer my constituents in terms of independent, level headed, effective leadership, and I want to make this the best City it can be. I want to care for our community in a way that preserves our quality of life.
What makes you the best person for the job?
I am an attorney and small business owner (Springsteen Law Firm, LLC) who knows how to listen, problem solve, and act effectively. I have spent a career advocating. I have the skills to negotiate solutions between residents and developers that will create projects beneficial to both. Lakewood citizens need a strong advocate who cares. I see all sides to an issue and I understand the law. And I love people. I want to work for voters to improve their lives.
What are your top three priorities if elected?
1. To promote Smart Growth that considers the needs of Lakewood residents/businesses and does not sell out our quality of life and neighborhood character. 2. To increase public safety by working closely with the police and criminal justice system in Lakewood. 3. To make certain that voters are heard in a sincere way, and treated with the respect and consideration they deserve.
How should the city implement the citizen-approved growth ordinance?
As an attorney and officer of the court, I understand the importance of the letter of the law. The law is strict, and is instituted by the People. We must not jeopardize the City’s reputation by attempting to circumvent the will of the People. We must uphold their direction, and find a way to work with developers and citizens to create the best outcomes. Voters on either side of 200 want the best for our City. We must make sure that happens.
How much do you foresee yourself working with the other members of council?
I see myself as somebody who attempts to understand all sides of an issue. As an attorney, that’s an imperative in my job. I will certainly attempt to work with other members of Council to improve communication. I will also speak my mind without inhibition when it comes to serving my constituents. As Leonardo da Vinci said, “Nothing can be loved or hated unless it is first understood.” I will try to understand.
