WHEAT RIDGE, Colo. June 8, 2017 -- The Wheat Ridge Police Department (WRPD) and Healing Waters Ministries will hold the Summer Fest ’17 and Child Safety Fair or Feria de Seguridad de Niño on Saturday, June 17, 2017, at Healing Waters Ministries, 6475 W 29th Ave, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will feature valuable safety tips as well as lots of fun for children and their families.
“The Child Safety Fair is a wonderful day of fun and learning for kids. They will have a unique chance to interact with officers from the Wheat Ridge Police Department. This is a great opportunity for kids to learn about things like bike safety while having tons of fun,” said Wheat Ridge Mayor Joyce Jay.
Wheat Ridge officers will be working with Arvada Fire and West Metro Fire as well as Colorado State Patrol to conduct drive-up car seat safety inspections, and will provide free replacement car seats while supplies last (courtesy of the Colorado Safety Seat Program). WRPD will also sponsor a balloon artist, face painting, a caricature artist for posing with the patrol car, and CHEEZO the mascot. There will also be a bike safety rodeo and Lutheran Medical Center will give away free bike helmets on a first-come, first-served basis. WalMart has also donated two children’s bikes for a special drawing in the afternoon. Police, fire and emergency services vehicles will be on hand for “tours” and children can meet the professionals who keep Wheat Ridge safe every day.
Information about crime prevention, health and local resources in both English and Spanish will be available at booths. Healing Waters Ministries is also encouraging residents to bring classic and vintage cars for a car show that day.
Flight for Life® Colorado will land a helicopter at the nearby Stites Park for the event, offering the children a unique look inside the life-saving medical helicopter. Participants are invited to stop by for a “tour.” The helicopter’s availability will depend on weather conditions and emergency calls.
Special thanks to sponsors and partners: Arvada Fire Department, Colorado State Patrol, CDOT, Healing Waters Ministries, Lutheran Medical Center, West Metro Fire Department, and the Wheat Ridge Walmart.
