I am a Jeffco parent and I will be voting YES on Amendment 73, 5A and 5B because strong public schools are the backbone of healthy communities, preparing students to be good citizens who make positive contributions.
Colorado has one of the fastest-growing economies in the country, but our per pupil funding is roughly $2,800 less than the national average. Our teachers have the least competitive wages in the country resulting in teacher shortages. Half of Colorado’s school districts have switched to four-day weeks due to lack of funding.
Statewide Amendment 73 creates a desperately needed new revenue stream for Colorado’s public schools that cannot be used elsewhere by asking the top earning 8% and C Corporations to contribute more equitably to all of Colorado’s public school districts. We can do more for our students and communities by avoiding closures, retaining and attracting quality teachers, and funding overdue repairs, renovations, and improvements that benefit our entire community.
Jeffco’s Mill and Bond, 5A and 5B, will increase Jeffco’s competitiveness with surrounding districts that have recently passed mills and bonds. 5A and 5B will allow Jeffco to attract and retain the highest quality teachers and staff, increase school safety and security, add more mental health supports for students at all levels including expanded suicide prevention programming, improve and maintain school buildings, and better prepare students for college and career through expanded STEM and career programming. Please join me in voting YES on Amendment 73 and YES on 5A and 5B!
Karyn Peabody,
Golden
