Letter: Gatherings need more diversity

Posted

On June 8, at Lakewood High School, we met the youthful, very personable incoming Jeffco schools superintendent, Dr. Jason Glass. His address to an audience, estimated at 150, painted a pleasant prediction of how far the district could go toward being the best, through inclusion and cooperation of diverse citizenry.

After exhausting the full list of laudable platitudes, Dr. Glass asked the audience to think in terms of specifics, with everyone submitting start-up priority suggestions for the coming year.

He was asked for ideas about rebuilding public confidence and a professional atmosphere, in view of the taint remaining from the recall that put the current school board in office. Dr. Glass responded that more gatherings of the type currently in progress would go a long way. One would hope that such functions would have a different make-up. Ninety-eight percent seemed to me to be teachers' union members.

Tom Graham,

Arvada
