Hunger and Homelessness: How to Help

Many children, veterans, single parents, retirees and people with mental illnesses or disabilities share the difficulties associated with getting enough food to eat and having a safe place to live.

The impact of homelessness and hunger in Jefferson County will be discussed during a panel discussion from 7-9 p.m. Nov. 8 at St. Anthony’s Hospital South, 11600 W. 2nd Place, Lakewood.

Panelists include Don Wick, Arvada chief of police; Mag Strittmatter, executive director of The Action Center; Rebecca Dunn, Jeffco Schools Community & Family Connections coordinator; and Linda Barringer with Family Tree and Heading Home.

Michelle O’Neill-Clark from the Volunteers of America and Lucas Burrier, a veteran’s advocate with Mountain Resource Center, will staff tables at the event to answer questions and distribute printed materials about services for veterans. There will be time for questions and information about actions that can be taken by individuals.

The discussion is presented free by the Jeffco League of Women Voters of Jefferson County. Call 303-238-0032 or go to www.lwvjeffco.org.
